The International Charter on Space and Major Disasters celebrates its 25th anniversary, a milestone that coincides with the CNES assuming the Charter’s presidency from October 2025 to April 2026.

The International Charter on Space and Major Disasters celebrates its 25th anniversary, a milestone that coincides with the CNES assuming the Charter’s presidency from October 2025 to April 2026.

As a pioneer in rapid mapping, ICube-SERTIT has supported the CNES in this international cooperation since the Charter’s first activations. SERTIT produces value-added satellite imagery products during catastrophic events and serves as Charter Project Manager.

Over 25 years, SERTIT’s Rapid Mapping Service – operational 24/7/365 – has responded to nearly 260 Charter activations involving 91 countries, delivering over 1,000 products. SERTIT’s experts rapidly generate maps within six hours of receiving crisis satellite imagery that highlight the extent and impact of disasters, providing critical information to civil protection services managing emergency operations.

During CNES’s Charter presidency, SERTIT is strengthening its operational support and is honored to have hosted the 54th Charter meeting and 25th anniversary celebrations in Strasbourg the 6-10 October 2025. At this event, SERTIT participated within Executive Secretariat and Board discussions alongside CNES, contributed to training sessions for Charter Project Managers and Value Adders by sharing its expertise and recommendations, and presented its activities to Charter members during an afternoon visit to SERTIT and the International Space University (ISU).

These celebrations underscore the strong, decades-long collaboration between CNES and SERTIT, with SERTIT proud to contribute its space sector expertise in service of the CNES.
